Any Service Can Be Improved

Hey there, Mike Cooch here.

If there’s something that I geek out on, it’s that companies can take what are normally products that we don’t really think about anymore. We don’t think about how to evolve them and how to improve them.

Somebody will just come along, apply good design concepts, smart thinking and totally revolutionize the product.

That’s the way I feel about the Simple Human Trash Cans and trash bags. This is just a superior product. Let me show you why.

Simple Human Trash Cans are stain-proof and have fingerprint-proof metal. It doesn’t get all smudgy and nasty when people touch it. Wherein OCD people will surely love.

Below is their brand promise,

To create smart, functional tools, we start with intuitive design and solid engineering. Then we use the best materials and subject our products to rigorous testing. That’s what makes a simple human product and why our warranty is a real promise.

…And I just love that nice strong brand.

What they also have are trash bags that are designed perfectly for the can. You know how your trash bags don’t really fit the can, right? The fact that it doesn’t fit produces all kinds of excess material and it’s kind of sloppy looking.

When you open the trash can there’s nothing excess poking out. It just looks nice and sharp all the time.

Now when opening the trash can, you can lift up the can with one hand then it will be propped up. When it is propped up you can easily pull the bag out by the strings on the side of the plastic bag. You can take now take the trash out and place a new bag.

There is no access to the inside of the trash can whatsoever. It looks nice, smooth, and clean looking. My OCD is satisfied.

Ways to innovate

Now you may be thinking, “Mike, you are going a little crazy over a trashcan.”

The point of this exercise is to demonstrate that even with the most ordinary products and services, there’s always a way to innovate. There is always a way to improve, and oftentimes, it’s the little things that will make a total difference.

I am not buying any other trashcan other than the Simple Human Trash Can because I love the simple things that they’ve done that make a real difference in their product.

Most businesses have undifferentiated products and services, and that’s why most businesses don’t really grow. They don’t take off and separate themselves from the competition, but with just a little bit of thinking it will differentiate you from your competition. You can absolutely pull ahead from the marketplace.

So, remember, there’s something in the trash can.
